[ARCHIVED] The Flower Planter Program Returns to Mill Street Bridge

Bridge Flowers 4

Montgomery, IL – The much-anticipated Montgomery Flower Planter Program will triumphantly return to the iconic Mill Street Bridge this summer. After a brief hiatus due to the Mill Street Bridge Improvement Project in 2022-2023, the program promises to beautify and invigorate the heart of the Village with the flower planter boxes and memorial signs hanging once again along the Mill Street Bridge.

The Montgomery Flower Planter Program, a collaborative effort between the Village of Montgomery Public Works Department and the volunteer-led Montgomery Beautification Committee, aims to enhance the aesthetic appeal of public spaces while promoting environmental sustainability and community engagement. The program celebrates the natural beauty of our surroundings by adorning the Mill Street Bridge with an array of colorful flowers. It fosters a sense of pride and unity among residents and visitors alike.

"We are happy to announce the return of the Montgomery Flower Planter Program to the Mill Street Bridge," said Executive Assistant of the Public Works Department, Renee Mason. "This initiative embodies the spirit of community and collaboration that defines our Village, and we are excited to showcase once again the flowers that have become synonymous with summertime in Montgomery." For several years, Mason has been at the heart of the project, assisting in coordinating the efforts of the close to 300 signs hung each year.

The program invites residents, businesses, and community groups to participate in beautification by sponsoring individual flower planters or contributing to the overall upkeep of the bridge's floral displays. In addition to adding visual appeal to the Village, the flower planters serve as a habitat for pollinators, contributing to the area's ecological health.

Registration for the Montgomery Flower Planter Program is now open through May 3. There are two options: residents or businesses can support this initiative and honor a loved one, family, or momentous occasion with the personalized signs that adorn the bridge. Registration forms are available on the Village website (https://montgomeryil.org/376/Flower-Planter-Program) or can be picked up from the Village Hall (200 N. River St.) during regular business hours Monday through Friday, 8:00A-4:30P.
