Montgomery, Illinois – The Village of Montgomery is delighted to announce the winners of the inaugural Volunteer of the Year Awards. At the board meeting on Monday, June 10, 2024, the Village President, Matt Brolley, and Village Board members gathered at a reception for the award winners, followed by a presentation of awards. The award recognition follows a month-long public nomination period in which community members could nominate and recognize a person or group who made a significant contribution to the Montgomery community and its residents.
The Village of Montgomery extends its heartfelt gratitude to these volunteers for their selfless contributions and dedication. Their efforts have greatly enriched the community and touched the lives of many.

Nonprofit Organization Impact | Special Stars, Inc.
Special Stars, Inc. is honored for its mission to provide therapeutic movement through physical activity while fostering an inclusive environment for individuals with physical, cognitive, and social differences. Held at Stephanie's Academy of Dance on Cornell Ave. in Montgomery, their classes serve over 75 families in the area. Volunteers Stephanie Clay, Tania Pope, and Kayla Lindow have been nominated for their tireless efforts in supporting these families and organizing sensory-friendly events such as Easter Bunny and Santa visits. Their dedication and volunteerism have been invaluable to the community.
Active Adult Impact | Patti Bulat
Patti Bulat is recognized for her unwavering commitment to the senior lunch program. As a longtime Montgomery resident, Patti has been integral to the program's success, arriving early to prepare coffee, setting up buffet tables, assisting in serving attendees, and staying afterward to clean up. Patti's involvement in the Beautification Committee and various Village events further exemplifies her dedication. Her energy and commitment have greatly benefited the senior community, making her a deserving recipient of this award.
Community Impact | Stacy Krutilla
Stacy Krutilla is celebrated for her significant contributions to the Rotary Club of Montgomery's free food pantry project at Village Hall. A Montgomery resident, Stacy has been instrumental in stocking, donating, and restocking the pantry regularly. She provides food and hygiene products, ensuring that her donations go as far as possible to help those in need. Stacy's generosity and dedication have profoundly impacted the community, particularly for residents facing food insecurity.
Youth Impact | Steve & Marge Griest
Steve and Marge Griest are recognized for their outstanding service as co-presidents of the Oswego High School Band Booster program. For the past three years, they have coordinated funding for uniforms, new instruments, clinics, and other resources benefiting Montgomery students at OHS. Nominated by OHS Band Director Kevin Schoenbach, their dedication and efforts have made a significant difference in students' lives, setting a high standard for parent volunteerism.
