[ARCHIVED] Montgomery Cautions Residents: Excessive Heat Warning Issued for the Region into Wednesday, June 15

Excessive Heat Warning

Montgomery, IL – An EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING has been issued for the region, effective through Wednesday, June 15. The area will experience high humidity and dangerous temperatures, with a heat index expected to exceed 105 degrees for 2 hours or more. The combined factors of temperature and length of time deem the heat warning for June 14 and 15 excessive by the National Weather Service (NWS) standards.

The Village of Montgomery warns residents of the dangers of exposure to these high temperatures. In addition, the Village welcomes residents in need of a cooling center to visit one of the Village buildings:

Village Hall (200 N. River St)
Open Tuesday and Wednesday from 8A-4:30P.

Montgomery Police Department (10 Civic Center Ave.)
Available Tuesday and Wednesday, Open 24-hours through 11:59P Wednesday, June 15.

Residents are encouraged to stay indoors in an air-conditioned location. If your home lacks air conditioning, visit a public mall or facility to cool down and take frequent cool showers to keep body temperatures normalized. Excessive heat exposure can be severe and significantly affect some people. Therefore, taking precautions and preventing heat-related symptoms and illness is essential to avoid potentially tragic outcomes. In addition, the Village asks residents to check on neighbors, friends, and family who may be most vulnerable during this time.

Additionally, the Village encourages residents to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids, limiting outdoor activities, wearing lightweight clothing, and never leaving children, pets, disabled or elder individuals unattended in cars or unventilated areas. The NWS projects the Excessive Heat Warning will expire at 8:00P on Wednesday, June 15, but the public should continue to monitor the media for more information and weather updates.
