Montgomery, IL –The Montgomery Public Works Department will provide residents with an emergency bulk brush collection on Wednesday, April 5, and Thursday, April 6, following the severe weather that downed several trees across the Village last Friday night. Crews will begin Wednesday morning and make only one pass through each neighborhood in the Village. They will continue until they have hit each area one time. The Village advises residents to stack all brush neatly in the parkway by Tuesday (April 4), as the first passthrough begins promptly at 7A. The Village kindly asks all residents to review the additional guidelines for bulk brush pick-up to ensure this service can continue to be offered to the community efficiently.
Village of Montgomery Bulk Brush Pick-Up Guidelines & Resident Tips for Emergency Storm Pick Up
- Brush must be stacked neatly in the parkway by the Tuesday evening before the special pick-up.
- Brush put out late after the single pass through the area will not be picked up. If it is not visible or accessible at the time of the passthrough, the disposal of the brush becomes the homeowner's responsibility.
- To the best of your ability, pile brush neatly in one direction, unbundled (not tied), with the more significant trunk portions or cut ends facing the street. Brush piles should not be taller than three feet high and should not obstruct the sidewalk, driveways, or pedestrian pathways.
- Twigs, leaves, and smaller yard debris should be in a yard waste bag for removal by the Village's regular garbage hauling provider on a designated collection day.
- The purpose of the emergency storm pick-up is to remove fallen trees, branches, and limbs due to severe weather in the area.
- If you cannot coordinate downed brush for pick up this week, please note that LRS Recycling does offer yard waste collected in brown yard waste bags beginning April 1.
- LRS will collect unlimited tied bundles of brush and bags of yard waste each week from April 1 through the end of November. There is no need for stickers ever! Residents must tie bundles with just twine (not wire). They should not exceed 2' wide by 2' high and cannot exceed 4' in length. Each bundle must not exceed 50 pounds. In addition, residents can put out an unlimited number of yard waste bags and properly bundled brush piles each week for no additional charge.
- Additionally, Montgomery Public Works regularly scheduled brush pick up for the spring begins the week of May 1 for residents that require more time to prepare tree limbs for collection.
