The Village of Montgomery is notifying the public of a planned road closure. The Mill Street Bridge, located in the downtown Riverside area of the Village, will close Mill St. between River St. and Route 25 beginning Wednesday, November 8. This bridge closure will not prohibit access to area businesses, and all businesses will remain open during this time. The closure is required to finish the rehabilitation project of the bridge, which began in the summer of 2023.
The final phase of the project includes the installation of new lighting features on the iconic bridge. The bridge will close on November 8 and remain closed until December. The final phase consists of the installation of scaffolding, light fixtures, and conduits across the bridge, testing and training for the new fixtures, and finally, the removal of the scaffolding.
Detours will guide travelers north to the Ashland Street Bridge. Additionally, those planning to travel in advance should utilize Route 30 to cross the Fox River during the closure. All businesses remain open during this time and are accessible. The Village will host its annual Tree Lighting on Sunday, December 3, in the downtown area and will showcase the Festival of Trees and Lights at Village Hall from the event through the end of the year. The Village encourages residents to continue supporting our downtown businesses and to come to view the holiday lights. This closure is the final phase of the Mill Street Bridge Improvement Project, and the Village looks forward to unveiling the new bridge lighting feature before the end of the year.
