A Message from Village President, Matt Brolley

VOM Thank you Image

Dear Montgomery,

Our population has grown by over 240% in the last two decades. As of the 2020 census, 20,262 people call Montgomery home. One thing we challenged our Board and Staff in 2023 is focusing our efforts on "Who is Montgomery." The average age of a Montgomery resident is 30.8 years, which makes our community much younger than our neighboring communities. Approximately 30% of our community is bi-lingual, predominantly Spanish, the second language. We do not take lightly that 6,390 households call our village home. We want to ensure we are doing our best as a Board to fulfill our mission to provide an excellent quality of life and a high level of municipal services in a fiscally responsible manner for our residents.

We spend our time planning not only for the Montgomery of today but also for the future of our Village. We continue to look towards 2024 and beyond. This year, the Village was awarded a grant to aid in funding a pedestrian bridge over Route 30 near Stuart Sports Complex. The budget is crucial as we begin engineering the overpass planned for 2026. We continue to work towards the essential transition from our current sandstone aquifer water source to Lake Michigan. Our team continues to collaborate with Oswego, Yorkville, and the DuPage Water Commission as we plan for the future. In 2024, we will continue to invest in Village water infrastructure, the Lake Michigan allocation, and watermain replacement, preparing us for this crucial transition project.

In early 2024, our Board will work alongside Staff to approve and protect our community's budget and financial plans. Additionally, we are working on our Strategic Plan for 2025-2029, which will align with the budget process to ensure excellence and alignment to serve our community best. The renovation of Montgomery Park is officially underway, and we look forward to a ribbon cutting in the summer and showing off the new amenities during Montgomery Fest 2024 (August 16-18). While there is much exciting work going on across the Village, I would be remiss if I didn't mention the most talked about project of 2024, the addition of a Cooper's Hawk Restaurant and Starbucks at the Ogden Hill retail center (Ogden Ave. and Rt. 30). We know that the consumer experience and need for enhanced retail and dining in our community is essential. We look forward to continuing to bring exciting new developments such as these to our community.

Who Are We? We are Montgomery, Illinois.

We proudly serve you, your family, businesses, partners, and friends. We are grateful for a year of growth in our Village and do not take the diverse population we represent for granted. We are committed to providing all of our residents (young and old) with an excellent quality of life and continuing to provide the high level of municipal services you have come to know.

I often end my editorials by inviting residents to contact me, but my request is sincere. We would love to hear from you. Whatever may be on your mind, or if you want to share the great work of a staff member you witness, maybe you grabbed a great picture of the sunrise from your yard.

Thank you, Montgomery, for another incredible year.

Best regards,

Matt Brolley
Village President
