The Cannonball Trail and Dickson Road Realignment Project is a significant infrastructure development aimed at enhancing traffic flow, improving roadway safety, and preparing for future connectivity improvements in the area. The project is a collaborative effort between the Village of Montgomery and the Kendall County Highway Department, spanning several construction phases. The project is nearing the first phase of completion and will realign Dickson Rd. to create a four-way stop with Cannonball Trail. This will eliminate the intersection of Dickson and Galena Roads. The new configuration will improve traffic safety and support anticipated development and growth in the community.
This realignment will involve a new section of roadway, allowing it to merge with Cannonball Trail and redirect existing traffic through a newly structured four-way stop, eventually becoming a traffic signal in the summer of 2025. This configuration will enhance driver safety, reduce congestion, and offer a more organized route for vehicles traveling through Montgomery.
The realignment is also part of a larger vision for the Village's transportation infrastructure. Once complete, this project will pave the way for the future connection of Gordon Road, where it currently ends at Julie Ln., further improving accessibility and regional connectivity for residents and visitors alike.
Construction of the new portion of the roadway is complete, and the removal of the Galena Road and Dickson Road intersection is expected to commence on Wednesday, March 19. Residents and travelers are advised to be mindful of ongoing work in the area and be prepared for the change in travel directions. We thank the community for their patience and cooperation as we work towards a safer, more connected Montgomery.
