As Village Public Works crews continue to clear streets following the snow storm over the past weekend, the Village wants to keep residents up to date on clean-up efforts and plans for a review of the snow event and any complications encountered by residents, businesses, and staff. Village President Matt Brolley wants to thank residents and business owners for their patience during this challenging storm.

“Record-breaking snow storms like this are a challenge for our residents and business owners, and I want to thank everyone for their patience as our staff works to clear streets of the snow that fell over the weekend. We know that some sections of the Village were not plowed as quickly as citizens would hope for and were not plowed to the levels that we desire and expect.

Our staffing levels, which have produced excellent results under typical winter conditions, were stretched to the limits over the 30 – 36 hour period in which our drivers were battling this storm that dropped over 15 inches of snow across Montgomery, with reduced staffing levels and mechanical breakdowns. Combined with high winds up to 40 mph which produced 3 to 6 foot drifts Sunday night, this was one of the most difficult snow events the Village has experienced.

Our staff is working across the community to clear streets, but we are focusing on those neighborhoods that are in the worst condition such as Foxmoor, Fairfield, and Balmorea subdivision as well as part of Lakewood Creek. All available plow drivers have been out since Saturday night, and I can say that all Village streets have been plowed at least one time and are passable by vehicle.

That being said, I have talked to our Director of Public Works about the problems that occurred and how we can improve our results. I have instructed him to review the events of the last few days and to report to me where our mistakes were made and recommendations for improvements. We will learn from this and work to improve our snow removal process while balancing the personnel and fiscal demands of providing other village services.”

Any questions on the status of Village road conditions or clean-up efforts may be directed to Director of Public Works Mike Pubentz by phone at 630-896-9241 or email at pubentz@ci.montgomery.il.us.
