[ARCHIVED] Montgomery Police Officer Kelli Smith Saves Choking Infant

Officer Kelli Smith

On May 7th, Montgomery Police Department officers responded to the 2400 block of Mayfield Drive for an infant choking and struggling to breathe call.  Ofc. Kelli Smith arrived on scene and made contact with the mother who advised her 4-day old infant was choking.  Ofc. Smith was handed the infant whom she observed was not breathing.  Without hesitation, Ofc. Smith properly supported the infant in her arms and provided multiple pats on the back which dislodged whatever was stuck in the infant’s throat. The infant then began to cry and resume normal breathing patterns.

Oswego Fire paramedics arrived on-scene shortly after and continued care for the infant. We have spoken to the mother who advised her infant is recovering well and wanted to thank Ofc. Smith for her swift actions.  We would like to recognize the lifesaving efforts of Ofc. Kelli Smith which support the commitment of the Montgomery Police Department to provide exceptional public service by protecting the life, liberty and property of citizens in the Village.
