Montgomery Unified Development Ordinance Approved by Village Board October 11
Montgomery, IL – The Village of Montgomery Board voted 6-0 favorably to several text amendments to the Village’s Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) at Monday evening’s meeting. Based on the Planning & Zoning Commission recommendations, the Trustees unanimously voted in favor of the updates.
“The most significant text change increases the permitted fence height to 6 ft. in residential districts not bound otherwise by an annexation agreement or homeowner association,” says Director of Community Development Sonya Abt. Other changes include:
- Revised screening requirements for outdoor storage areas
- Reduced the parking requirements for the downtown Mill district
- Various minor clarifications throughout the code to clarify descriptions and wording
“Many residents voiced concern over the previous 5ft. fence height restrictions, while the formal process took some time, residents should know we are listening and want to do what is best by them, says Village Trustee Steve Jungermann.
Residents and business owners should note that subdivisions regulated by an existing Annexation Agreement or Homeowners Associations (HOA) will supersede the amendments by the Village and all are strongly encouraged to reference these documents as well when considering property updates, especially regarding the fence height restrictions.
