Montgomery Issues Community Safety Alert Following High Wind Damage

Montgomery, IL - The Village of Montgomery Police and Public Works Departments are onsite tonight, along with ComEd and the Montgomery-Countryside Fire Department, following high winds that downed several power lines and trees in the Village's downtown riverside area.

The community urges the community to avoid the area and its residents in the immediate area to remain inside their homes. The most significant wind damage is between Route 31 (Lake St.) and S. Broadway Rd. from the west to east and Jefferson St. and Sherman Ave. from the south to the north.

The following streets are closed for cleanup and safety:
- Main Street between Jefferson & Mill (west of the river)
- River Street between Jefferson & Mill (west of the river)
- Broadway Street Closed (east of the river)
- Catherine Street Closed (east of the river

Downed power lines and trees in the area pose safety risks. Those in the area should remain in their homes. Additionally, many neighborhoods and areas of the Village are experiencing power outages due to the damage. ComEd is onsite. At this point, there is no estimation for when power will restore to the area. If you are without power, please report it to ComEd at 1-800-Edison-1(1-800-334-7661).

The crews will continue to work throughout the weekend and plan to schedule an emergency brush pickup in areas where damage necessitates early next week. Please follow the Village social media pages for updates and additional information.
