Volunteer & get involved in your community
Volunteers have long been an invaluable resource to our community, and every minute of their dedication counts! However, changing workforce demographics and busy schedules requires a change in the way we think about volunteerism. The Mayor's office launched a Volunteer Initiative Program (VIP) to revamp our connections with community volunteers and promote new ways of enhancing the volunteer experience for all ages. The goal of the VIP is to provide varied and flexible opportunities designed with the busy household in mind.
Whether you are interested in giving an hour or seeking long-term volunteer experiences, we will work closely with you to find a match to your interests. To get started, view the current volunteer opportunities available, then complete the volunteer interest form.
If you have any questions or would like more information, please contact the Community Engagement & Event Coordinator at 630-896-8080.

We understand volunteers come in all shapes and sizes, and not everyone has the capability to commit to longer or bigger volunteer commitments. Below are several ongoing community volunteer opportunities you can participate in without having to sign-up for a designated shift.
For questions, please contact rboeing@montgomeryil.org.
Be a Volunteer Hero Every Winter!
Sometimes elite-level volunteering doesn't take more than good health, warm boots and a shovel or snowblower (cape optional). Be a neighborhood Winter Warrior throughout the snowy season.
Sidewalk Superhero: Keeps sidewalks safe and clear of snow for children to get to and from school, a disabled neighbor to board a bus and the old guy down the block who walks his beagle every morning.
Asphalt Avenger: Removes snow from a driveway for a resident in need - perhaps it's the older couple next door or the neighbor recovering from knee surgery.
Hydrant Hero: This heroic volunteer just might save lives...even his/her own! If there's a fire hydrant in front of your home, please keep it clear of piled snow so it's accessible in the event of an emergency situation
There is an opportunity for everyone to share kindness like confetti. Look through the list below for some ideas on how you can take part in community acts of kindness.
- Leave a kind note for someone. You never know how much a few kind words can impact someone's day.
Check in on neighbors.
Show your appreciation to Public Works, Village Hall staff or Montgomery Police. Use this form to leave Village staff a short note.
Make and mail a handmade card.
Shop local and support small businesses.
Pay it forward. Buy someone a coffee, tip a little extra or come up with your own way to pay it forward.
In partnership with the Rotary Club of Montgomery, IL, Village Hall hosts a food pantry. The food pantry can be accessed during open Village Hall hours - Monday through Friday, 8:00A-4:30P.
Food Donations
Food pantry donations can be dropped off during open Village Hall hours. While we are grateful for all donations, we are unable to accept any perishable, refrigerated or frozen items at this time.
Host a Food Drive
Interested parties can host a food drive to help stock the food pantry at any given time. Please contact rboeing@montgomeryil.org with the dates you plan on hosting your drive and when you plan to drop your donations off.
The Resident Water Ambassador program aims to help inspire and impact consumer water behavior through an improved understanding of the value of water. Water is essential for human health, food security, energy supplies, sustaining communities, and ecosystems. Today, the world’s water systems are facing a growing crisis, threatened by overuse, pollution, and climate change. Let's all do our best to protect and conserve this precious resource.
Here are a few ways you can do your part to reduce water consumption.
Install a water-saving toilet flush system.
Take shorter showers.
Turn off the tap while brushing your teeth & washing your hands.
Don't keep the tap running while washing dishes/utensils.
Close taps properly and fix leaking taps, pipes & toilets.
Wash your car at a car wash, it saves water and prevents toxic chemicals from being flushed down the storm drains.
Pick up after your pet. Animal waste is full of nitrogen which removes oxygen from the water leaving it completely unusable for aquatic life.
Do not hose down your driveway – use a broom.
Do not use fertilizers made with phosphorus because chemicals can leak into groundwater sources.
Do not flush expired or unwanted medication down the toilet.
Take used oil or antifreeze to a recycling center.
Use a rain barrel to collect rainwater.
